15th October Martin Watts: ‘Gristing and Tucking; some aspects of water-power in North Devon. (Martin is the authority on mills; has written the Shire guide, the seminal text ‘The Archaeology of Mills and Milling’ and has appeared on Time Team).


19th November Dr. Martin Gillard: ‘Peatland Restoration and Archaeology on Dartmoor: damming dilemmas’. (Martin has in the past worked for South West Archaeology and Exmoor National Park. He now works for Dartmoor National Park as their Headwaters Officer).

21st January Emily Wapshott and Belinda Tibbetts: ‘Dig the Castle, Torrington, Phase 2’. (Emily is a building specialist, founder member of Archaeologists Engage and works for South West Archaeology. Belinda is an Australian osteoarchaeologist and also a founding member of Archaeologists Engage). ‘Dig the Castle’ won the prestigious Marsh/CBA award for Community Archaeology Project 2024.


18th February Steve Reed: ‘Recent Archaeological Discoveries in North Devon’. (Steve formerly worked for many years with Exeter Archaeology, publishing many sites. He is now Senior Archaeologist at Devon County Council HES).

 

18th March Dr. Susan Greaney FSA: ‘Excavations at the Manor House, Columbjohn’. (Susan is a lecturer at Exeter University, a specialist in British Prehistory and author of books on Chysauster and Stonehenge).


15th April Dr. Lucy Shipley, Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record Officer - NB VENUE TO BE CONFIRMED - Talk may be online.
